This morning while scanning through the dials, I was drawn to an interesting conversation on the Elvis Duran Morning Show that caught my attention. The topic they were sharing was on the idea of purpose for your life. During the discussion, they were talking about how sometimes a tragic or life-changing event reveals to you your purpose or calling in life.. As if our life’s purpose is only driven by outside events or accidents. We all have a God-given purpose and calling in our life; even if we don’t know what it is yet. If finding your life purpose seems like an elusive undertaking, don’t panic! You are not alone.

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

What’s Your Life Purpose?

The world says that it’s your job to find purpose in your life, and live out that purpose. This can be very discouraging and overwhelming. This even can lead to anxiety, depression or both. But fret not. God has a wonderful plan for your life. I want you to know that just being willing an open to his plan is key as you begin to start your journey.

Take a look at the disciples for example. Before Jesus came on the scene, they were fisherman, tax collectors, farmers, etc. They were regular guys doing normal regular things. Little did they know how much their world would change when Jesus asked them to follow Him. It’s the same with our own lives, just like the disciples, we need to be willing to say yes Lord I will follow you. God might not reveal what the plan is right away, but simply having a humble heart and a desire to be used can lead to great things.

So What’s Next?

How can I follow his purpose if I can’t hear Him? Sometimes you may feel something weighing heavily on you to do something. Maybe it’s opening a door for a stranger, buying groceries for a family in dire need of help, or calling up an old friend you haven’t spoken to in years. Though this tugging might seem a bit stranger, this is the Holy Spirit’s way of getting your attention to guide you. Sometimes God wants you to take the focus off of yourself and in turn look for a way to be a blessing to someone else. God reveals glimpses of His purpose by allowing you opportunities to carry out simple acts of obedience and walking in faith, Overtime, you will learn to hear the still small voice and see the direction you need to go.

Step Out and Try It

Working with God to find your life purpose means working as a team. God has given you all the tools you need to succeed in His instruction manual for life, the Bible. All you have to do is read it and obey what it says. When you take a step, God takes a step. Before you know it, you’re walking down the path God has chosen for you. The thing to always remember is to be patient. Walking in faith and in obedience long term will yield a richer purpose then you could have imagined. God has great things in store for your life, the Bible promises that. Finding His will and purpose is a life long journey, one step at a time.
